Multi-City Packing Tips

We’re about to embark on a two-week travel period and I’m so excited. I just returned home from a week visiting family and my bag isn’t unpacked from that trip yet. I clearly have a lot to do before we leave but I planned this post to share some multi-city packing tips! We’ll be heading to San Diego for five days, flying up to Seattle for a wedding + fun and then back to the Midwest for a few days at a family cabin.

First off, the temperatures should range from 55 to 85. We’ll be working with some clients, attending a wedding, exploring new places and lounging around. As I was piecing together my outfits, I realized I follow the same types of tips for any trip:

1. Only Pack Stuff You’ve Worn Before (and like!)

The first tip I always give people is to pack things you’ve actually worn for a full day and actually like. When you wear something new, you might find a new blister or some annoying characteristic about that item of clothing (like an itchy tag). I make sure that if I buy anything new, I wear it a few times before adding it to my suitcase.

2. If You Must, Pack Heels for Specific Events

There are certain outfits that I wear that I really enjoy pairing with a good set of heels. HOWEVER: I don’t pack heels unless it’s for a day where I’ll be relatively stationary or sitting down. For this trip, specifically, the heels will be for the wedding we’re attending. Or maybe you’re one of those women who love wearing heels and I’ll forever be amazed by you.

3. Neutrals Won’t Let You Down

I’m biased (because I only wear neutrals) but I find it much easier to pack, pair and mix outfits when everything is neutral. I’m packing stripes, denim, black and khaki for this trip and my shoes are pretty basic, too.

4. Jackets and Scarves Are Your Best Friend

Between freezing A/C and temperature shifts, layering tends to be my best friend. I’m either really hot or cold on an airplane, shivering at a restaurant or sweating while I’m walking. I like to pack things like a denim vest, jacket or an oversized scarf so my attitude stays pleasant.

5. Get the Coverage and Support You Need

Packing different types of bras doesn’t take up that much room in your luggage so pack a variety! I like to pack one for racerback tanks, a wireless bra (these two are my favorite), a set of Nippies instead of a strapless (omg they’re amazing) and a bralette. It makes for a more comfortable trip and the ability to wear an assortment of tops, dresses and rompers.

6. Don’t Forget Activewear

I didn’t take photos of my leisure/active wear for this post but believe me…I pack it! I bring shorts, sweatpants, a hoodie and tees because if I’m not going anywhere specific, that’s what I like wearing. Socks are also key. Those hotel rooms can be so cold!
