3 New Things: September Edition
Every month, I attempt to try 3 new things. I’m happy to say that I succeeded last month and managed to send letters to friends/family, I went skinny dipping, AND finally got a grasp on video and editing. It was a good month and now I’m really excited for autumn and cooler weather.
Since I’m still on my spending freeze, I’ve stuck with doing things that won’t interfere with that:
- Create and post a video shot with my DSLR: I upgraded to a Canon T2i and am excited to shoot video with my new tripod!
- Host a swap party: Best way to get through the last month of my spending freeze? Get “new-to-me” stuff!
- Only buy produce from local farmer’s markets: I bought all of our week’s produce at the Grandview Farmer’s Market and plan to visit other local markets throughout the month!
Oh and if you haven’t noticed yet…my blog has a completely new look + name! If you’re curious as to why I chose to re-name it, check out my explanation here. I was never really attached to the name Show + Tell (I picked it impulsively when I switched to Wordpress.org) and I’ve noticed a lot of other people using the phrase “show and tell” lately. I want to continually grow this space and it was time to pick something more meaningful. Let me know if you see any broken links/bugs/errors while clicking around!
In honor of this new look and start, I’m giving away a free blog re-design package (in Wordpress) to one of my lovely readers! The package will include:
- Blog header design
- Social media/connect icons
- Customization of the Standard 2-column theme, horizontal navigation bar
- Web font + color customization
- Background
- Two rounds of revisions
Disclaimer: If you’re currently on Blogger, I can transfer your content to Wordpress but cannot guarantee that your photos will maintain the correct width. Also, in order to maintain a Wordpress.org blog, you must own a domain name + purchase a hosting package. I can help you do this but you will be required to pay for this.

LOVE the new look and name! What great work you do… you should really consider going into design… ;)

I love the new look & name!
I would like a new blog design because I have recently started blogging again and I think my page is pretty bland and boring and needs a bit of a spruce up!
-
-
I love your new color palette! And I’m also trying to buy more of my produce from farmers markets. I just discovered the Union Square Green Market (I’m still newly moved to Manhattan) and they have a ton of organic farmers!

I love the new look – and your blog. It’s always fabulous!!! I’d love for you to redesign my blog… I just don’t think it’s visually inviting, which makes me feel uninspired. Yuck!
-
i like the new name! :D
and you’re already designing some stuff for me, might as well design the whole shebang! you are my favorite, after all.
-
I have never been to a farmer’s market while in the US. My “spot” was Whole Foods and Central Market (in Texas and Oklahoma). I loved it as it enabled me to get fresh organic food and feel as if I had been to the local market in Cameroon.
I also like youyr 3 things posts, I think it is good to set goals monthly so as to stay focused on what really matters. I usually set goals in ly head and I am good at remembering them, so I never really jot them down on paper.
I see that the T2i has become the bloggers favorite camera! Almost all of the blogs I read use this one. Mine is a Nikon D40 and I don’t think I will be switching to a Canon any time soon (just a personal preference). But I can’t wait to see your videos and also photos taken with your new baby =) Hooray for new cameras!
As for your giveaway, I think it is a great way to celebrate the new name of your blog. I personally never entered a giveaway, but as I love new ways to pamper my blog, I just had to give it a try. I think it would be fun!

I’m in love with the farmer’s markets here so far! Bonus is that I don’t have to drive all over the place to get to them either. It was challenging for me when I lived in Ohio to get to the farmer’s markets because they were pretty far from where we lived.
One new thing I’m doing this month is the plank and pushup challenge. I need to gain some strength back again!
My blog is totally out of date. I need a responsive blog, a design that better reflects the theme and feel I’m going for, and a design that will allow me to use bigger pictures.
PS: I’ve never seen rafflecopter before!

I love your 3 new things posts – So intentional and so very fun!
I don’t know if I’m eligible for a blog re-design, since I haven’t started mine yet (though I do own a domain name..yay!). Either way, I want you to help me design it so that it’s visually appealing and responsive like yours from the get go..a place where readers can find what they’re looking for and feel a part of a community.

I really need to work on getting up early on Saturdays to go to our farmer’s market so lately I’ve been getting produce from Trader Joes since I really don’t like the quality of what I see in Walmart and sometimes Kroger.
My blog could really use a creative touch, and nothing really flows right. Word Press is definitely the way to go.
-
It’s beautiful!
I’ve been really thinking a lot lately on what things I want to really, REALLY do with my time and how to prioritize so I do them well. That’s sortof a spread out & lofty goal, huh? ;)
-
And I messed this whole rafflecopter thing up again! ;)
I’ve been considering a move to wordpress, so this would definitely give me incentive to get my act together.
The last time I sortof ‘branded’ my site, I was selling on etsy, and I’m not anymore. I’d like a simpler design and something new- something that’s just for moxiemandie.com. :)
-
Love the new look! And the name… me and a friend were just chatting the other day about being present and living in the now… I love it.
-
As I tweeted, I love the new design! I’m definitely entering your giveaway – I could really use a facelift.
-
Of course, I forgot to mention why. Of course. I’m not too savvy with web design, and while I really would like to teach myself, this is my last semester of college and it’s pretty fully loaded. I’d really like to get a good design off the ground so that I can continue to build my blog with more confidence.

i would LOVE to win a blog redesign because my current design was great for starting out, but it is a standard, free template. i would LOVE to have my blog design represent ME fully & more uniquely. SO excited for this chance to win! thanks so much!

I just stumbled across your blog… wow… great work. Am looking forward to reading more about how you get on with your 3 new things adventure. I love a good challenge :)
I’m also thankful for your Here We Go series on blogging. I’m still new to the whole blogging game and am always keen to read more about what people think makes a successful blog. I’d love a blog redesign as there’s no way I have the sill to do something like that for myself.
So happy I stumbled across your blog. That can be one of my 3 new things for September :)

I love the new name and look. I definitely need a new look for my blog.
What kind of swap party are you thinking of doing? It’s a great idea! -
Gorgeous new blog! :)
Love the idea of buying produce only from local markets. I tried really hard to do that this summer but it was tough for me with a hectic and unpredictable schedule. So I started using Green Bean for all of my produce and LOVE it. It’s a lazier approach to what you’re doing, but still a great way to support local!
-
I use Green Bean, too! Been pretty happy with it so far. It’s not all local, but it’s a little easier for me to choose stuff my family likes, since everyone is so picky!
-
-
Wow, the new look is gorgeous! I love the new name as well. If you’re looking for a great fall drive, I recommend heading to the Granville Farmer’s Market one Saturday morning. They have a great selection and it’s a fun little town to explore.
-
I host a swap party at least twice a year! It’s a good opportunity to pass on stuff you like but don’t use anymore to nice, loving homes. I really love seeing my friends in clothes that I used to own – it’s fun! They almost never style things the same way I do, and that can be pretty eye-opening. Good luck with your swap party!

I LOVE the swap party idea. I really should plan one. I should. Really should. Damn, when will I have the time? I don’t care, I’m making it happen. Please let us know how yours went and any helpful hints on organizing one. :)

I am going through a list of things I want to learn/try so that I can be just like you (in the non-creepy way). I love the things you do.

love love the new design, and the reason behind the new name is really inspiring. I love your design work, and would be over the moon to win!
-
I love my blog design, but it is really home-spun and could use a good sprucing up. And I’m dying to switch from Blogger to WP–dying! I just feel like I’ve outgrown Blogger.
-
-
I’m really hoping to jump from the free Blogger platform to hosting and running my own sometime in the near future. However I know very little about all of that stuff, and even less about design.

The new blog is beautiful! No surprise there. You are such as inspiration, committing to change/new things and then following through! I won a domain name but have never put together a blog – that should be my fall commitment, and I could sure use help!
-
-
-
Love love love your work! It would be amazing if you could sprinkle your amazing skills on our blog :)
-
Oh man! I would absolutely love this (you know I need this haha!). Fingers crossed!!!!

I have been trying redesign my site with limited WP experience and business acumen. Which has led to my site being a complete mess and disaster! Please help me!
-
oh allison, this giveaway is spectacular! i would love love love your help on my blog – it could definitely use your pizzazz :)
-
The redesign is beautiful! I love the idea that this place might always be changing to fit what you love—I think that’s how it’s always been here. Always tweaking things, here or there. Soo glad to hear the freelancing is going so well!

Great job on completing your August goals.
I’ve been shopping at farmer’s markets every Saturday morning for the past 2 months and LOVE it. My favorite produce at each market are: peaches at Clintonville Farmer’s Market, kale/spinach/swiss chard at the truck sitting on the street at Worthington Farmer’s Market, all produce (esp tomatoes and corn) at the largest stand at North Market’s Farmer’s Market.
Also, SO fun that you got a new camera. Can’t wait to see the video.
I entered for a blog redesign for Paralegal Team…. mainly because now I lost the THE and I’m excited to get a new face for it.
Good luck on your 3 new things this month!
